2021 Selby Gardens Orchid Show

Join us for two specialty photography workshops open to all levels and equipment, even smart phone cameras!

As the only botanical garden in the world dedicated to the display and study of orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads and ferns, epiphytes, and tropical plants, Selby Gardens hosts an orchid show each fall focusing on different themes and complimented by a variety of special lectures, classes, and events.

This years theme is Top to the Big Top and celebrates the breathtaking beauty of orchids in tree-top canopies high above the forest floor with the artistry and spectacle of the circus, particularly the aerialists who perform extraordinary feats of human ability high above captivated crowds which ties into Sarasota’s rich circus history.

In conjunction with the 2021 orchid show, SRQ Photo School is presenting two photography workshops:

 

#1 Orchids in Black & White Photography Workshop
Friday, October 15th | 10:30am to 1:30 pm

Using the annual Orchid Show as a backdrop, we’ll explore the recipe of a compelling in black & white and how to create truly unique art that emphasizes form, texture, pattern, light and more. Come with any equipment you like and an open mind for a great discussion and practical field exercise inside Selby Garden’s Conservatory during the annual orchid show.

#2 Color is King Photography Workshop
Friday, November 19th | 10:30am to 1:30 pm

Using the annual Orchid Show as a backdrop, we’ll explore key concepts for effective communication with color coupled with a less is more approach to photography. Orchids are an ideal subject for this creative photography workshop. All levels and equipment welcome.
