I attended one of Perry’s workshops a few years ago at Mote Marine which I enjoyed very much, but I was still stuck in my comfort zone and wasn’t really gettng the type of images I knew my camera was capable of. We did a remote session and discovered I was just missing a solid understanding of a few key concepts. He left me with all the notes and a pathway for success which I am now using whenever I go out and shoot.
Thank you for the remote session about cameras and how they are different than phones. This is a great place to start and I will begin to look for a Nikon Z5 – Z7 and a 24-70mm f/4 lens to get me started. You made a good case for mirrorless. I’ll also look at the Sony too but I agree there are more Nikons available. I’ll compare on the new and secondary markets. I’m not sure if I’m up to searching on Facebook Marketplace but I’ll take a look. I’ll call with any questions and when I have the camera we can have our next session to get me started using it. Thank you.
I’m not afraid of my camera anymore…
Wow… I guess you don’t know what you don’t know. Who knew?
This was a gift for my husband before our trip to Africa. He was starting to freak out: second guess his abilities, what to bring, settings and was trying to convince himself to just bring his phone in the guise of “convenience”, but that’s not him so I knew this was serious.
He was immediately so calm and we had a blast. He only texted Perry 3 times during the trip. Thank you.
I wanted to use my camera more for work. We talked about a lot photo concepts but what helped me the most was the last thing he said which was to leave your camera out whre it is accessible and do something with it every day even if it just a picture of your morning coffee or a colleague when you are on a break. After a week, I can honestly say that was the biggest takeaway.
Thanks for the remote session. Great to re-connect after a few years. That was super helpful to review Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed with the new 600mm and already the images are turning out a lot better. I guess I wasn’t giving the basic concepts enough thought when I’m out shooting.
Our next session can be on Lightroom which will work well remote too. Thanks again, it was definitely worth it. I’ll send you a few images from Canada. Let me know when you are back in Sarasota.

Thank you for the photo session for out techs and front office staff. The notes you provided and standard procedures will be very helpful. They laughed a lot which was good.
The lens and lighting suggestions were very helpful and for sure makes more sense for what we are trying to do. Mindy appreciates you being available for any questions until she is more comfortable. I really liked the suggestion that somebody needs to be using the camera daily even if it is just for our own internal use.
Understanding the camera better will for sure help us take better images for the lab as well.
